Street group seeks parade participants
Support Our Streets, a group supporting a one-cent sales tax increase in Bayfield, is looking for volunteers to march in the July 4 parade. Call 769-6873 to participate.
Childbirth classes offered
Parent Connection, a program of Pine River Shares, is having a weekly childbirth class from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays starting July 14 and running through Aug. 4.
The class is $150 for all four sessions, and scholarships may be available. To register, call 884-4747.
5K, fun run to benefit Annie's Orphans
Purgatory's annual Mutt 'n Strut 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk with your Dog will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at the resort.Â
For every $15 registration, $10 is donated to Annie's Orphans Dog Shelter.
All dogs and walkers and runners are welcome.
Post-race festivities include dog sports training demos by Durango Dog College, and dog costume and best trick contests with prizes.

Community potluck is June 27
The monthly Pine River Shares community potluck is Saturday at Eagle Park in Bayfield. All are welcome. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share if you can, and your own table service. Contributions of non-perishable food or fresh fruits and veggies are welcome.
Set-up starts at 4 p.m., and helpers are always appreciated, also for clean-up. The potluck is 5 to 7 p.m. For information call 884-4747.
Maker Fair set for Saturday
Ignacio Community Library will have its first-ever Maker Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Shoshone Park in downtown Ignacio, behind the library.
All kinds of hands-on and scientific projects will be featured, including ham radios. Rocket launches will start at 10:30. For more information, call the library at 563-9287.
Preschool alumni needed for parade
Bayfield Early Education Programs (BEEP) is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2015. All kids, big and small, who have attended the preschool and all board members, parents, staff and community members who have helped the school flourish since 1995 are invited to walk in the Bayfield 4th of July Parade. County discussing facilities plan
On Tuesday, June 30 the Board of County Commissioners will discuss and accept public comment on the county's long-term facilities strategy, which includes the possible acquisition of 10 Burnett Court in the Durango Tech Center. Public comment will be accepted during the board's regular business meeting at 10 a.m. in the new County Administration Building board room at 1101 E. 2nd Ave.
The county is considering purchasing space at 10 Burnett Court and 211 Rockpoint Drive to expand county offices. Comments can be submitted to commissioners@co.laplata.co.us.
CPR, 1st responder classes available
Heart Safe LaPlata, a local non-profit organization, will teach an adult CPR/AED class 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. A CPR pro class will be held with the same hours on Thursday, July 9.
Both classes will be taught at Durango Fire & Rescue Station 1 at 142 Sheppard Drive in Durango. An upcoming Emergency Medical Responder (First Responder) class begins the week of July 13. This class will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday and Thursday nights for four weeks, also at the fire station. To register, email classes@heartsafelaplata.org or call 385-3260.
