Gurley might not be the guy upon return to Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. – Todd Gurley was a leading Heisman Trophy contender before his four-game suspension. Now that he will return for No. 16 Georgia against No. 9 Auburn this week, it’s no lock he even will start.
Gurley’s replacement, Nick Chubb, has made a strong case to keep the job.
Chubb ran for 170 yards and a touchdown Saturday in a 63-31 victory over Kentucky. He had 143 or more yards in each of his four games as Gurley’s replacement.
The NCAA suspended Gurley for taking $3,000 for autographed memorabilia and other items over two years. Georgia (7-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) was 3-1 without Gurley, losing to Florida two weeks ago.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Carson Palmer confirmed he is out for the season after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday’s win over St. Louis.
The injury comes with Palmer playing some of the best football of his career on an Arizona Cardinals team that at 8-1 has the best record in the NFL.
He signed a three-year contract extension Friday.
Palmer says he is not an emotional person but “cried like a baby” Sunday night.
DA won’t file charges against 49ers’ McDonald
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Santa Clara County district attorney’s office has declined to file charges against San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald in a felony domestic violence investigation stemming from his Aug. 31 arrest.
Prosecutors said in a release that they were unable to charge McDonald because of conflicting versions of what happened, a lack of verifiable eyewitnesses and a significant lack of cooperation by the alleged victim, McDonald’s fiancee.
The arrest came only days after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced stiffer penalties for players accused of domestic violence.
