Where’s the beef? Pagosa Springs residents on TV

As the local food movement continues to gain steam, ranchers and farmers in Southwest Colorado are getting some attention. This time, the featured food producers are Allan and Lois Higgins, owners of GrassRoots Meats in Pagosa Springs.

The Higginses raise 100 percent grass-fed and grass-finished cows and sheep, recently adding free-range chickens to the lineup.

Chef Frank Bonnano, from Colorado Public Television 12, who stars in “Chef Driven,” tours the state, interviewing folks such as the Higginses, seeing how the food is grown or raised, then takes the products back to the Denver area to prepare an enticing recipe or two.

The episode will air at 6 and 11 p.m. Sunday; at 7 p.m. Feb. 18; 7 and 11 p.m. April 8; and 6 and 11 p.m. April 27. It’s available locally on DirecTV and, in some areas, on Dish TV or at http://video.cpt12.org/video/2365165909.
