50 years ago: “News Editor William C. Bogle has been named managing editor of The Herald, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ballantine Jr., publishers, announced. He succeeds Executive Editor Gene Perkin, who is leaving after nine years to obtain his master of arts degree in American history.”
25 years ago: “Telephone service is improving in Silverton, but U.S. West Communications officials aren’t sure if all problems will be solved before heavy snow causes phone technicians to halt repairs. Two full-time technicians are in the process of visiting every business, residence and public building in town with phone service and correcting any problems or replacing outdated outdoor equipment, such as cables and wiring boxes.”
