11 DUIs reported in La Plata County over Fourth of July weekend

381 drivers arrested throughout the state
Eleven arrests were made over the July Fourth weekend in La Plata County as part of CDOT’s Heat is On campaign.

Eleven people were arrested for DUIs in La Plata County over the Fourth of July weekend, according to a report from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Colorado State Patrol made seven arrests, while the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department made four over the six day period. Last year, La Plata County reported four DUIs over the same period, but only the state patrol reported arrests.

Both agencies were taking part in CDOT’s The Heat is On campaign, a statewide effort that targets impaired drivers. The campaign takes place 14 times a year, usually during holidays. The July Fourth enforcement period lasted from June 30 to July 5.

Law officer arrest 381 drivers throughout the state, an increase from 318 drivers cited last year, the report said; 109 agencies participated.

Colorado Springs Police Department made the most arrests with 32. Greeley Police Department followed with 28, and Denver Police Department made 24. Colorado State Patrol arrested 86 impaired drivers throughout the state.

The Heat is On campaign will be held again near Labor Day, from August 18 to Sept. 5. .
