11 tires slashed in southeast Durango

Eight vehicles vandalized late Tuesday or early Wednesday

Someone slashed the tires of eight vehicles Tuesday night or Wednesday morning in southeast Durango, causing thousands of dollars in damage, police say.

A total of 11 tires were punctured by a knife or some other sharp object between the hours of 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of East Fourth Avenue, the east 200 block of Fourth Street and the 200 block of East Third Avenue, said Cmdr. Ray Shupe with the Durango Police Department.

Police believe the vandalism was random; none of the victims are related.

The department suspects the vandalism was committed by the same person or people, although it does not have any information about suspects.

Officers did not collect physical evidence from the scene – most of the department’s investigation will revolve around interviews with neighbors, Shupe said.

“Basically, what we look for is somebody in the neighborhood who saw somebody out of place,” Shupe said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call dispatch at 385-2900.
