A 12-year-old student at Heights Middle School faces criminal charges after school officials learned he reportedly planned a school shooting.

The male student, whose parent is a teacher, allegedly wrote a plan on how he intended to carry out the shooting, according to Shanice Gonzales, Farmington Police spokeswoman.

“He intended to steal his mother’s key car, radio and guns from their home to carry out a school shooting,” Gonzales said.

When school officials found out Tuesday, the school was placed on lockdown and Farmington Police were notified.

“No weapons were found on the student or in his belongings,” Gonzales said.

Gonzales added that “criminal charges were fast-tracked and the case was referred to the Juvenile Probation Office.”

The student was suspended from the school.
