Durango police are looking for a man who assaulted a 15-year-old boy on the Animas River Trail Monday afternoon.

Lt. Ray Shupe said the teen was jumped by the Demon Bridge, which is behind the La Plata County Fairgrounds in the 2500 block of north Main Avenue. The incident was reported around 3 p.m.

“The male suspect came up behind the victim, got in front of him, struck him in the face, and he (the victim) fell to the ground,” Shupe said. “The suspect stole his wallet.”

The assailant is described as a man in his 20s with a “darker complexion,” wearing a black hoodie, black shorts with a red stripe and high-top sneakers.

The victim was treated at the scene and released with minor injuries to his face and his shoulder.
