2 YAFL teams survive Round 1

A pair of local Youth American Football League teams remained alive after the first round of the playoffs.

The fourth-grade Demons defeated the Farmington Punishers 27-13 behind four rushing touchdowns from Jake Swift, who scored from 25, 30, 45 and 70 yards out.

Jordan Stanley and Emmett Thompson led the defense with an interception and fumble recovery, respectively.

Durango will play in the semifinals Saturday against an opponent to be determined.

The fifth-grade Demons continued their undefeated roll with a 41-6 win over the Farmington Wolfpack.

Jordan Woolverton accounted for three touchdowns, rushing for two and returning a kick for the third.

Alex Pavon blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Cal Walsh also ran for a score.

Durango’s defense forced five turnovers and scored twice.

The Demons will play the Farmington Ducks on Saturday in Farmington in the YAFL semifinals.

The league went 2-2 this weekend to move its overall record to 20-21-1 on the season, including the playoffs.

The third-grade Demons lost 26-0 to the Farmington Bulldogs and ended their season 3-6; the sixth-grade Demons White’s season is over after a 7-6 loss to the Farmington Demolition.

Durango failed to convert an extra point and finished the season 6-3.
