2,400 pedalers with ‘Ride the Rockies’ to come through Durango

The 28th annual “Ride the Rockies” will arrive in Durango on Monday with an expected 2,400 riders in tow.The 513-mile tour, sponsored by The Denver Post, will begin today in Telluride. Riders will spend the night in Cortez before heading out on the 64-mile journey to Durango on Monday morning.Durango will welcome the riders with entertainment and a beer garden from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Buckley Park, between 12th and 13th streets on Main Avenue.Riders will congregate overnight at Durango High School and the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

The route changes every year. The last time it came through Durango was 2010.

The tour will head to Pagosa Springs on Tuesday, then over Wolf Creek Pass on Wednesday. Riders will cross the finish line Saturday at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.
