3-vehicle crash closes U.S. Highway 160 briefly Tuesday

U.S. Highway 160 reopened after a three-car crash 3 miles east of Elmore’s Corner, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday near mile marker 94, said Lisa Schwantes, spokeswoman with the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The highway was closed in both directions for about 20 minutes, but reopened to one-lane, alternating traffic before fully reopening shortly after 5 p.m.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Bradley Spargur described it as a rear-end crash involving three vehicles: One vehicle was stopped to turn, another vehicle was stopped behind that one, and a third vehicle plowed into the stopped traffic.

The crash involved a Nissan SUV, a GMC Yukon and a Subaru, Spargur said.

The driver of the Nissan SUV was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center with “moderate” injuries, he said.
