About 300 customers in Ignacio were back in power by 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.
The power outage began at 6:26 p.m. Wednesday.
“The cause was damaged equipment that was burnt out,” La Plata Electric Association spokeswoman Indiana Reed said. “We don’t know when it happened. It could have been struck by lightning last summer and finally failed.”
The outage started in the area of El Patio and included the commercial district and the residences south of that area, she said.
“This is a good time to remind people to sign up on LPEA’s emergency list if they use lifesaving medical equipment and need electricity to survive,” she said. “We will find a way to take care of them.”
