If well-coordinated construction teams can replace critical bridges in a matter of days, one would think that moderately competent project managers could complete an upgrade of one mile of road with new buried utilities, sidewalk, and curb and gutter – especially with no through traffic.
Not so with the 32nd Street rebuild between Holly and County Road 250. I’ve been telling myself they must be almost finished for 16 months. How can less than one mile of two-lane road take 24 months to rebuild?
Slow project completion costs everyone more: more money for contractors, more fuel for idling cars waiting their turn, more time wasted in cars instead of at home or our destinations, more emissions polluting our air.
I respectfully ask that project managers be held accountable and that they hold contractors accountable to be efficient and serve residents with time- and cost-efficient project execution.
