4-H County Council to collaborate on community events

I am excited to announce the 2019-20 La Plata County 4-H County Council officer team. The team will take on leadership roles for our entire county program. In addition, members will act as our representatives at state and national 4-H events.

Stella Seashore-Botha will be serving as our president. Stella is a community club member of the Rocky Mountain Rough Riders 4-H. She has shown great growth through participating in a variety of 4-H opportunities and is a member of our Interstate Exchange Program, where we traveled to Oregon this summer. Stella is also the queen’s attendant with the La Plata County Fair royalty. Furthermore, she is an active horse project member in 4-H. We are happy to see Stella take on this position for our county.

Maddie Stephenson will be serving as our vice president. This is Maddie’s second year on County Council. It has been truly amazing to see her confidence and leadership abilities grow through her involvement. Maddie is a community club member of Mountain Shadows 4-H in Hesperus. Maddie participates in 4-H projects in market beef and shooting sports. Maddie is also a member of the Durango FFA program.

Rachel Sanburg will serve as our treasurer. This position will be a great opportunity for Rachel to learn accounting skills. Rachel is a community club member of Super Shooters 4-H in Bayfield. She has been a lifelong 4-H member and is enthusiastic about taking on more responsibility this year. Rachel has been active in 4-H through her goat and shooting-sports projects. She is also one of our hardest workers at the county fair. We are super-excited to have Rachel join us this year.

Last but not least, Emma Stephenson will join us as the council’s reporter/secretary. Emma is Maddie’s younger sister, and this will be her first time joining County Council. It is wonderful to see Emma wanting to join the council and contribute to our larger county program. She is involved in the beef, market and dairy goat, and sheep 4-H projects. She loves her livestock and giving back to her community.

The 4-H County Council is preparing to host a 4-H Winter Break Day for members. This educational event will help train members throughout the county to run successful meetings using parliamentary procedures. In addition, it will focus on how to engage everyone in their clubs in an inclusive manner.

The council will also collaborate on community events throughout the year. These opportunities will allow them to show the power of youth and how they make a positive impact on our community.

We have a lot to be thankful for here at La Plata County 4-H. As turkey day approaches, I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.
