4 the magic number for Bayfield track

Edwards, Pazell take fourths Day 3 at the state meet

Four was the magic number for the Bayfield High School track and field team Saturday at state.

Two days after winning a state title in the 3,200-meter run, Eva-Lou Edwards took fourth in the 1,600 at the CHSAA Class 3A Track and Field State Championships in Lakewood, and TJ Pazell took fourth in the long jump.

Edwards finished 4 seconds out of first place, finishing in 5 minutes, 18.85 seconds; Pazell uncorked his best jump of the year, finishing about 7 inches out of first with a 21-foot, 2.25-inch leap.

Keith Wickman wrapped up his 200-meter dash competition in seventh in Saturday’s finals in 22.99 seconds, half a second slower than Jorge Hernandez of Coal Ridge, who won in 22.48.

Wickman helped the 4x100 team to an eighth-place finish in 44.72.

To wrap up the field events, Sam Espinosa took ninth in the girls shot put, tossing 33-11.

Conner Kennedy finished 16th in the high jump, clearing 5-7, 4 inches lower than his personal record this season.
