Four Bayfield-Ignacio football teams battled first-round playoff opponents on Oct. 10, and one survived to move into Saturday's semi-final games.
The Bayfield fourth grade Young American Football League team defeated the Farmington Panthers 18-0. They now move on to play the Aztec Apes at 3 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game takes on either Cortez or the Farmington Force at noon on Saturday, Oct. 24 for the fourth grade Four Corners YAFL Superbowl.
Fifth grade lost 13-14 to Kirtland. Quarterback Lance Mazur threw a touchdown pass to Silas Wilbourn. In a defensive highlight, Mitchell Story intercepted a ball deep in Kirtland territory. The Wolverines took over the ball, and Mazur ran the length of the field to score the team's second touchdown. An attempt to get the extra point failed, however, resulting in the loss.
The sixth grade team had a tough loss to Durango and third grade lost to Durango 31-19, as well.
