5 running for 2 seats on Upper Pine Fire board

Two incumbents and three challengers are running for two seats on the Upper Pine Fire District board of directors. The election is May 6, with voting at the district administration building, at 515 Sower Drive in the Bayfield Center business park or Station 4 at the north end of Vallecito. Voting this year is on electronic voting machines, with members of the La Plata County Clerk's office working at the poll sites. Registered voters in the district, as well as property owners who live in Colorado, can vote in the election.

Incumbents Roger Pennington and Bill Kourim are seeking re-election. Challengers are Casey Cook, Wayne Walters, and Bill Faust.

District patrons can meet them at a candidate forum from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. at the Bayfield Lions Hall.
