The 558 fire east of Bayfield is contained, although some smoke still might be visible from the highway, a staff member at the U.S. Forest Service office in Bayfield said on Wednesday.
Columbine Ranger District fire crews monitored the fire in the Beaver Meadows area of the San Juan National Forest. The fire was started by a lightning strike and spotted on July 6. Originally estimated to be about a third of an acre in size, it grew to 10 acres.
