A pair of 5K run/walk fundraisers are scheduled Saturday for the benefit of two Durango children.
One benefits a 4-year-old boy – and others – with hydrocephalus, a swelling of the brain; the other, an almost 1-year-old boy who is recovering from a heart transplant at five months of age.
The Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation 5K is scheduled at The Plaza, 175 Mercado St., near Mercy Regional Medical Center. Registration starts at 9 a.m., the walk/run at 10 a.m.

Christina Brown’s son, Jaden, 4, has hydrocephalus, found in about 1 in 500 births. She is the chairwoman of the Colorado chapter of the Pediatric Hyddrocephalus Foundation.
A run/walk and a silent auction will raise funds to help pay the medical expenses of a 10-month-old Liam Maddox who has had a heart transplant.
Liam Maddox is the son of Paul Maddox and Jacquelyn Wright and the grandson of Darrell and Eileen Maddox. The grandparents head the Durango committee that is helping the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, the sponsor of the fundraiser.
Liam was 5 months old when he had the transplant because of an enlarged and weakened heart that couldn’t pump blood.
The run/walk begins at 9 a.m. on the Animas River Trail in front of the Powerhouse Science Center.
A silent auction is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum. A local band, The Assortment, will play.
Information about where to purchase tickets for the 5K and auction is available from Eileen Maddox at 903-4796.
