Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to minimize the risk to the public, attorneys, litigants and staff members of the 6th Judicial District, non-medical face coverings are required to be worn in courtrooms and offices in the courthouse beginning Monday.
Face coverings should be made of cloth, fabric or other permeable material, without holes, that covers only the mouth, nose and lower face. Coverings should fit snugly but comfortably and remain in place without the use of hands. Masks should not contain one-way valves.
Individuals not complying with this order may be required to leave. Judicial officers and/or clerk or probation supervisors will make reasonable accommodations for individuals with health or safety concerns about wearing a mask.
In La Plata County Courthouse, San Juan County Courthouse and the clerk’s office in Archuleta County, face coverings will be provided to any individuals needing to wear one.
Courthouse security officers may not deny entry to those who do not comply with this order, but judicial officers and court and probation staff may refuse to allow non-complying individuals to enter or remain in any courtrooms, probation or clerk offices.
Presiding judicial officers have discretion to modify this order in courtrooms and in individual chambers based on certain criteria.
This order will remain in effect until further order of the court.
