I understand that the Durango Fire Protection District purchased the 9-R building in Durango, which is adjacent to Buckley Park and a residential neighborhood. They may share it with the police department. I don’t think that putting a fire station and/or police department at this location makes any sense. Traffic will increase around the park and neighborhood, noise levels from sirens will be disruptive, parking will be an issue and the park will surely be impacted.
This is a beautiful building that would be better used as offices, apartments or something else. The park is currently a central gathering place for citizens for things like concerts and festivals. Can you imagine the parking issues? Please, don’t let this become a city debacle!
