9-R dinner for business leaders puts focus on career education

Information about technical education will be provided
JERRY McBRIDE/Durango Herald file

Durango High School’s culinary team will prepare a meal Thursday for interested business leaders from around the community. Durango School District 9-R officials want to hear from business leaders about the district’s career and technical education programs.

Business leaders from Durango are invited to learn about career and technical education programs at Durango High School at a free dinner prepared by the school’s culinary arts students Thursday.

Besides learning about career and technical curriculum offered by DHS, business leaders will tour facilities devoted to career and technical education programs.

Also, they will learn about long-range plans for Durango School District 9-R school buildings and break into small groups to discuss challenges and opportunities faced by the district and its students.

District officials are seeking input from the business community about the career and technical education programs the district offers and the possibility of expanding the programs.

District officials also are seeking to increase communication with Durango business leaders as the district examines seeking approval from voters to issue bonds to pay to fix a backlog of building maintenance issues, to increase the budget for annual school maintenance and to pay for school security upgrades.

The lunch will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday in the DHS cafeteria.
