9-R is a great school district

With the school board election over, I’d like to share my thoughts about our school district.

My children graduated from 9-R schools more than a decade ago. That said, I found the schools gave my family everything I asked for. Since that time, choices in 9-R have expanded exponentially. For those not satisfied with standard 9-R offerings, there are multiple choices between public school, charter school, religious schools and home school. 9-R is expected to take up the slack with physical education, arts and vocational. They do so, also providing transportation, after-school programs and athletic competitions.

Now, throw in a pandemic.

What do parents expect? As a parent, you bear some responsibility for your children’s success in school.

With all the choices available to parents, what is the problem? I’m tired of blaming the board. Take some personal responsibility in the education of your kids – make sure they are eating well, getting enough sleep, checking homework and have a safe place to live. You can’t make up for it by disrupting a public meeting, actually you will provide a model for your child.

Come on, get a grip on what we have here in our great school district.
