9-R superintendent chairs state task force

Snowberger

Dan Snowberger, superintendent of Durango School District 9-R, was elected to chair the new Standards and Assessments Task Force looking at the state’s testing system.

The task force, formed by legislation earlier this year, held its first meeting Tuesday at the Capitol.

The task force’s assignment is to study the impact of testing on teaching time, the interaction of testing with state accountability and educator evaluation systems and the feasibility of waiving some assessment requirements.

Task force members are scheduled to report their findings to the legislature by Jan. 31, 2015.

House Bill 14-1202, which created the task force, allows for minority reports. But Snowberger and others said they hope a single report can be prepared.
