The Durango Demons’ girls basketball team ran into a buzz saw in the first round of their league tournament.
Durango (7-12) fell 74-43 to Glenwood Springs (20-1) in the opening round of the Southwestern League/Western Slope League tournament in Grand Junction.
DHS entered the game as the No. 8 seed in the tournament, playing No. 1 Glenwood Springs.
Glenwood Springs fared better in every statistical category entering the game, scoring an average of 13 points per game more than Durango.
Durango fell to the consolation bracket where the Demons will face No. 4 seed Eagle Valley at 3 p.m. Friday at Palisade High School in Grand Junction.
Eagle Valley (12-9) was upset 52-33 by No. 5 seed Rifle (10-9) on Thursday.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 Montrose survived in a 42-39 victory against No. 6 Steamboat Springs.
No. 2 Palisade (14-7) also earned a 41-21 victory against No. 7 Delta (9-12).
