Durango has been doing snow removal the same way for a long time and, by golly, it’s not going to try any newfangled way of doing it any time soon.
Durango’s snow removal plan (or lack of a plan) for the downtown area is to have snowplows running around plowing snow around parallel-parked cars. This process is slow, tedious and leaves many cars snowed in.
The amount of time wasted with this process further limits Durango’s ability to plow in areas outside of downtown, leaving those affected citizens stranded.
In many cities similar to Durango, they have a snow removal plan. And in this plan they put up signs that say that, during snow days, you must park your car diagonally on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days and on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days. The snow plows or graders can then make a fast sweep without having cars in the way.
