A Demons troica stumps for state

Cunnion, Gustavson, Lavengood will wrestle for regional titles

A trio of Durango Demons were flawless Friday at regionals in Montrose: Patrick Cunnion, Daniel Gustavson and Matthew Lavengood all will wrestle for regional championships Saturday and a chance at the state meet.

Dillon Anthony, Joe Crawford, Hunter Hall and Devon Pound all won some and lost some and will continue wrestling Saturday in the consolation rounds.

Cunnion received a first-round bye at 182 pounds, then won by fall over Cordell Stroud of Delta in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals.

Gustavson won by fall over DJ Elder of Discovery Canyon in the first round at 220 pounds, then won by fall over Luis Aguirre of Battle Mountain in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals.

Lavengood won by fall over Adrian Rincon of Erie in the first round at 120 pounds, then won by technical fall over Larry Flores of Glenwood Springs in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals.

Anthony and Crawford both lost their first-round matches to tumble into the consolation bracket, and both won back-to-back matches to remain alive at regionals at 152 and 138 pounds, respectively.

Hall and Pound both won their first-round matches, lost their quarterfinals, then won their consolation matches at 126 and 113 pounds, respectively.

Henry Dorr (160), Kyle Duran (170), Cole Gustavson (132), Tristan Martinez (106) and Mark Trujillo (195) all went 0-2 at regionals.
