There were seven total points in the first quarter of the Ignacio High School boys basketball team’s game against Sargent on Saturday in Monte Vista.
The Bobcats eventually adjusted to Sargent’s slow-down style to win 41-25 and extend their season-opening winning streak to five.
IHS trailed the Farmers 5-2 after the first quarter but used a 17-5 run in the second to take control of the game.
“They ran a slow-down (game),” IHS head coach Chris Valdez said. “They had a great point guard, and he’s a lot of their team. We double-teamed him, trapped him in.”
The Bobcats’ own point guard, Wyatt Hayes, responded by leading the team with 12 points while coming down with eight rebounds, six steals and three assists.
