A heartfelt thanks for caretakers and hospice

This past month my father, Richard Nagler, died in his home in Durango. He was stuck in bed for only two days, after 91 years without a down day. That is about as good as it gets. The process was hard and sad, but so many people stepped up to help our family.

First, I would like to thank Home Instead owners Janine and Dave. They are competent, deeply empathetic, and take care of both their employees and clients like family.

A heartfelt thank you to longtime caretakers, Travis and Henry, for their patient companionship and care.

Thanks to Annie for her compassionate advice to stay ahead of Dad’s pain instead of reacting to it. She helped us through a difficult night.

Patsy and Karalynn are CNAs with calm, hands-on nursing skills that allowed us to help Dad stay comfortable so we could catch up on sleep without worrying. CNAs are angels on this earth.

Mercy Hospice helped us with everything, patiently explaining our options to palliative care, and just a huge number of resources, before and after Dad’s death. Thanks especially to Carrie, our intake nurse and RN, and Maiko guided us through.

And finally, a thank you to Kristal and Ryan at Hood Mortuary for zero pressure and taking time.

Sincerely,

Amy Nagler
