Regarding your columnist Kathleen Parker’s most recent offering (Herald, Jan. 3), which opens with the sentence, “If karma is a b-h, then Justice is a beauty queen ... ”
Sorry, but enough is enough.
I am left without choice but to scribe this to your cherished columnist:
“Namasté Kathleen!
I have enjoyed several of your columns courtesy of our little hometown paper – err, now hometown tablet? – The Durango Herald. Thank you!
Wanted to let you know that it’s predictably inaccurate and offensive to write something like ‘If karma is a b-h, then Justice is a beauty queen.’
I easily forgive your lack of Avidya (spiritual ignorance) for not capitalizing ‘karma’ while capitalizing ‘Justice’ ... however, please understand: There are several forms of Karma! There is White, Black, Seeded, Unseeded, Throwing, etc. Fact is, Karma actually means (Divine) Justice!
I will leave it to your Atman (hmmmm, hard to translate; let’s say, human soul force) to feel the Throwing Karmic weight of your Avidya! As a columnist of your stature, to forward such Avidya of the inherent sacredness of Sanscrit terms to the masses is yet another destructive ripple in the current collective word abuse so pervasive in our trying time.
Perhaps Trump’s unmitigated penchant for chronic, horrid, and often offensively inaccurate word choices are now seeping into the cells of once noble journalists like yourself, who are professionally trained to honor the precious power of words.
With head bowed,”
