As many of the visitors and customers of the North Main district have noticed, there has been a distinct change to the parking situation at our store, Mac’s Liquors (Herald, June 23).
Mac’s Liquors parking area had been held under lease by City Market since 1981. At that time, a rate of payment, schedule and schedule of increase was established.
The past 36 years have brought a number of addendum and extensions to the original contract. This past April 30, the latest extension to the contract expired.
The offer that we received would have cut the rate by almost half, as well as held that rate stagnant for a duration of 10 years.
After a number of exchanges, the ownership of Mac’s Liquors decided to segregate our parking, to ensure availability for our customers. This became necessary due to the habitual use of the parking area as parking of convenience for the grocery store.
Mac’s Liquors has also decided to use a portion of the parking area to benefit the community-at-large. Acceptance of an offer by Peach Valley Produce, a local company, has brought a fresh produce stand to our North Main community.
