Barely a year old and already receiving accolades, the Durango Welcome Center has been given the 2013 Governor’s Award for Downtown Excellence: Best Public Space.
The center, which opened in May 2012 at Eighth Street and Main Avenue, was lauded for “providing customers with an experience equivalent to walking into a website describing and showing what Durango has to offer,” according to a news release from the city of Durango. Center visitors can do things as diverse as getting information or tickets, refilling water bottles, learning about Durango or using the restroom.
Governor’s Award winners will be featured at a dinner and reception during the Downtown Colorado Inc. annual conference in Grand Junction on Sept. 12.
