A pair of YAFL Demons remain undefeated

The undefeated second- and sixth-grade Demons continue to dominate the Youth American Football League season.

The second-grade Demons improved to 5-0 with a 33-6 win over the Aztec Tigers last weekend.

Linkin Griego scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Malakai Baire, Cully Feeney and Cole Pontine all added touchdowns on the ground. Wyatt Bartel rushed for two extra points.

Durango will host the Bloomfield Bobcats at 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School.

The sixth-grade Demons improved to 6-0 with a 38-6 win over the Aztec Tigers.

Gage Mestas intercepted Aztec on the second play from scrimmage, “and it was all Durango from there,” Demons coach Ryan Woolverton said in an email to The Durango Herald.

Jordan Woolverton scored from 3 yards out for a 6-0 lead, then scored from 15 yards out, and Alex Pavon rushed for the extra point and a 13-0 lead.

Aztec scored on a long passing play to cut the lead 13-6.

Durango answered with a Woolverton touchdown pass to Niko Mestas from 34 yards out and a 20-6 halftime lead.

Gage Mestas scored from 2 yards out in the third quarter for a 26-6 lead.

Woolverton hit Kyle Riemers for a 4-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, and Haezen Mestas scored from 1 yard out for the Demons’ final points.

The Demons will host the Kirtland Broncos at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School in their final home game of the season.

The fifth-grade Demons beat the Aztec Tigers 40-6 on the road. Durango will host the Farmington Gators at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School.

The fourth-grade Demons lost 6-0 to the Bayfield Wolverines. Durango will host the Kirtland Broncos at 9 a.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School.

The third-grade Demons lost 27-6 to the Aztec Tigers. Bayfield will host Durango at 3 p.m. Saturday.
