A third win of the season eluded the Ignacio Bobcats on Friday.
After a long trip to Centauri, the Ignacio High School baseball team put together a solid performance, with starting pitcher Iaasic Peña delivering a complete-game performance from the mound.
Peña, a 5-foot-10 senior, was lights out most of the game, but a two-run home run by the Centauri High School Falcons gave the Falcons (7-5) enough for a 3-2 win against the Bobcats (2-5).
“Peña threw the whole game and pitched really well,” IHS assistant coach Clay Miller said.
Nate Atencio, a freshman, got the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the second inning. He delivered a single that scored Peña.
Ignacio was back on the board an inning later, when junior shortstop Tucker Ward drove a single that scored sophomore outfielder Juanito Medina.
The Bobcats were able to tally plenty of hits, but Miller said the team struggled to push runs across the plate. “We left runners on base every inning,” the assistant coach said.
Ignacio now will turn its attention to the league schedule, which opens at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dolores (3-4, 1-0 2A District 2).
