Pine River Public Library
The Pine River Library in Bayfield is helping local kids start the school year off right by conducting a "SKEE Pass" library card drive.
All parents want their children to succeed, and one of the simplest ways you can ensure your children's academic success is by signing up for a library card. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Pine River Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most important school supply - a free library card.
SKEE = Success, Knowledge, Education, and Entertainment. A library card becomes a "SKEE Pass," a student's ticket to everything. Pine River Library's SKEE Pass program is an initiative that erases fines for any student with an existing library card, and signs up those students who do not have library cards. "All students need access to what we offer here-databases, materials, computers, study areas, and more. Every student in Bayfield should have a library card for the Best Small Library in America," said Library Director Amy Dodson.
Resources at the Pine River Library are available to anyone who has a library card, and library cards are free. Students can come to the library for materials, programs, and services that support academic achievement. The library has books, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and CDs, as well as indoor and outdoor spaces for everyone to use. The library also offers laptop computers, eReaders, tablets, and other electronics that may be used in the library or checked out (by parents) for use at home.
Students may use their library cards from anywhere. The library offers access to online educational resources, such as eBooks, online encyclopedias, databases, and more.
"The library provides all students with a welcoming atmosphere where they can research, discover, study, and create," Dodson said. "Students learn in a variety of ways, and thanks to the resources available, we can meet the needs of all ages and types of learners. Whether that is through homework help, print resources, online information, or innovative programs, the library has something for everyone - all free with a library card. It is for these reasons that a library card is the most important school supply of all."
As students register for school, they will also register for a library card. Forms and information for SKEE Passes will be included in registration packets. The SKEE Pass initiative runs through Sept. 15.
