I am writing to ask that you vote “yes” to support the Durango Fire and Rescue measure.
During a lifetime of excellent health, including 50 years of skiing and 18 years walking the streets of Durango as a letter-carrier, I never expected to be one who had to call 911. One morning, I became aware of the feeling that something was very wrong – a blood clot had moved from my leg into my lungs.
Shortly after my call, an ambulance and emergency medical technicians arrived. Then, I went into cardiac arrest. Because of their rapid response and excellent training, I am one of the few who are able to walk out of the hospital after this type of health event.
Most of us have limited budgets and all of us are facing rising costs. But the money we spend now could be the best investment we’ve ever made, maybe priceless. With the funds for more and updated equipment, our families and neighbors might be given the chance to have the gift that money can’t buy – life.
