Acme Healing Center marijuana shop fined for code violations

Problems discovered after burglary
The Durango Local Licensing Authority fined Acme Healing Center Tuesday for violating city rules governing recreational marijuana shops.

Acme Healing Center was fined $2,000 Tuesday by the Local Licensing Authority board for violating city marijuana rules.

“I think it is a very fair and equitable settlement,” board member Bob Ledger said.

Durango Code Enforcement Officer Steve Barkley discovered the retail marijuana shop violated city ordinances after it was burglarized in November.

The shop on County Road 203 did not have a working security system, and it was not storing all of its cash and inventory in a safe storage room at the time.

The security system was disconnected in July by a Charter employee who was changing Acme’s internet service, said Acme’s compliance officer, Molly Rogers at a previous meeting, and it was never reconnected.

The store was not aware of the problem, and when it was discovered, the security system was fixed immediately, she said. She also previously told the board that the store believed it was in compliance with the storage requirements for marijuana products.

Representatives for the store negotiated the settlement with the city before the board approved it.

After Tuesday’s meeting, Rogers said she felt the fine was fair and declined to comment further. Acme Healing Center operates five stores across the Western Slope, according to its website.
