Actions fit the definition of harassment

Every woman has known men like Dave Peters, one of the people behind the recall petition effort to hound Commissioner Gwen Lachelt from office (Herald, Jan. 26).

When an individual from the male-dominated culture of the oil and gas industry looks at someone like Gwen, he sees three things:

a woman;a strong woman;a successful, strong woman. And he cannot stand it. That a successful, strong woman has stood up to him and his repeated attempts to harass her – and she has prevailed – he can’t stand it.

Harassment does not have to be sexual to be predatory and primal, and Peters’ actions against Gwen over the last year fit that definition: predatory and primal. Peters can try to make it sound otherwise – accusing her of things she has not done, making it sound like it’s wrong to stand up for things like clean air, doing what she told voters she would do – but his real obsession is clear: There is a female in his way and he is going to remove her.

Yes, every woman has known men like Dave Peters, and every La Plata County woman should be incensed that he is trying to pull the garbage he is trying to pull in our community.

Well, not here and not this time, Dave. Gwen Lachelt is a successful, strong woman, so put on your big boy undies and live with it.
