Acupuncture Alliance to hold fundraiser

Group helps stressed veterans and families
Dr. Kristen Lum applies acupuncture to Ellen Shinkle in her office at Rivergate Natural Healthcare.

The Durango Acupuncture Alliance, which has provided more than 1,000 needle treatments for veterans since it started the free service in October 2012, is holding a fundraiser June 13 to further its work.

A silent auction will be the focal point of the open house from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Self Heal Center, 635 East Fifth Ave.

There also will be food and live music by the Stillwater Faculty Band, spinal screenings and acupuncture demonstrations following protocol of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).

NADA treatment involves placing five needles in specific locations in the ear. Training is limited to certain health care professionals, including acupuncturists.

The Acupuncture Alliance began its free service to treat veterans suffering stress and post-traumatic stress syndrome.

The fundraiser is sponsored by the Durango Acupuncture Alliance, the Self Heal Center and Alpenglow Chiropractic.
