Though Adams State’s cross country superiority was on display at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, two Fort Lewis College Skyhawks freshmen ran their way onto the All-RMAC Second Team.
Freshman Victoria Quintana finished 17th with a time of 22 minutes, 45 seconds and Becca Bramley finished 23rd (23:02) to earn Second Team honors and lead the Fort Lewis team to a fourth place finish as a team in the 6K RMAC Championship Race at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa.
Fort Lewis junior Kristen Ascensio finished 32nd (23:23), sophomore Emily Bryant came in 34th (23:27) and freshman Carly Wilborn crossed the line in 38th (23:42) to round out the scoring for the Skyhawks.
The Skyhawks men finished 11th as a team.
Freshman Sylas Schutt’s time of 25:52 led the squad and earned him 53rd place. Tate Lagesca finished 54th (26:53), Ryan Mott was 59th (27:10), William Scoggins crossed in 60th (27:16), and Michael Walker’s time of 27:21 was good enough for 65th.
The host team, Adams State, won its fourth consecutive conference championship on both the men’s and women’s teams.
On the women’s side, the Grizzlies dominated the field with six of the eight best times in the 6K race. Adams State freshman Noel Prandoni finished first with a time of 20:43. The Grizzlies also had the third-, fourth-, fifth-, seventh- and eighth-place runners.
Adams State’s 20 points were far and away ahead of the second-place team, Western State, which finished with 40.
The Grizzlies’ men, led by sophomore Jackson Sayler’s second-place finish (24:27), had four participants finish in the top 10. The Adams State men finished with 36 points – 16 points ahead of second-place Colorado Mines.
Mines’ Dan Mahoney barely outlasted Sayler and won the race with a time of 24:26.
