Administration’s selective outrage is unacceptable

Charlie Kirk’s death was a tragedy. The outrage was warranted. Where was this administration’s outrage over the two students shot at Evergreen High School on the same day by a shooter who expressed neo-Nazi views, or the 161 that have been killed and 401 injured in school shootings just since 2007?

Where was this administration’s representation at the service for Melissa and Mark Hortman, and why did Donald not pledge to ferret out “each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity…”? Where was the outrage when Alex Jones was claiming that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax? Imagine if anyone declared Charlie Kirk’s murder a hoax.

This administration has vocalized outrage that politicians are more vulnerable to political gun violence, when our schoolchildren have been feeling that vulnerability for years as they practice active shooter drills or read about yet another school shooting.

On April 5 at a Turning Point event, Charlie Kirk said “I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal.” Where was this administration’s outrage when Charlie rationalized sacrificing the lives of school children to protect Second Amendment rights?

This level of selective outrage we are witnessing around Charlie’s death is disrespectful to all those who feel threatened by, and have been victims of, gun violence and only sows divisiveness.
