Airport expansion presentation to be held

Kip Turner, director of aviation at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, spoke earlier this year about the improvements the airport hopes to do in the near future.

A presentation about the proposed Durango-La Plata County Airport expansion is on the agenda for the monthly La Plata County Economic Development Alliance investors meeting. The meeting will take place at 7:30 a.m., Dec. 9, at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, according to an Alliance news release.

Kip Turner, director of aviation at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, will be presenting the proposal.

The Alliance has identified air service as a key five-year goal for growing the economy. The airport contributes $300 million per year to the regional economy, the news release said.

Enhancing the terminal is critical for maintaining that contribution, while new flight service will help grow the economic impact of the airport to the region, the Alliance said.

At this investor meeting, Turner will explain the reasons behind the expansion as well as the three options being considered.

The Alliance will be soliciting feedback and opinions from the La Plata County business community in an effort to move the process forward.

A copy of the presentation as given to both the city and the county is available online.
