The Durango-La Plata County Airport will close its 375-space main parking lot from Sept. 17 to Sept. 21 for repairs.
Airport passengers who leave their vehicles at the airport will be asked to use the airport’s 700-space credit card parking lot, south of the terminal, beginning Sept. 12, when no new cars will be allowed to park in the main lot.
The airport will conduct a crack seal, apply an asphalt seal coat and restripe the lot. The lot will reopen Sept. 22.
Cars that remain in the main parking lot on Sept. 16 will be towed to the overflow lot at the airport, and signs will be in place for passengers who don’t find their cars where they left them, said Oren Fallon, airport operations manager.
By closing the main parking lot to cars Sept. 12, Fallon said airport officials expect most cars will have been retrieved by Sept. 16, and officials expect only a few vehicles will have to be towed.
The timing of the work, after Labor Day and before the holidays, comes when travel numbers are light and the weather is favorable, Fallon said.
Signs will be put in place to alert passengers about the work, and telephone numbers will be on signs so people can call if their car has been towed to a new parking space at the airport.
The repairs will cost $70,000.
