Alamosa’s scoring duo too much in second half for Bayfield

Absmeier and Orozco combine for 22 in second half for Mean Moose

Kane Absmeier and Damian Orozco combined for 26 points and scored 22 of those in the second half to help the Mean Moose hold off the Bayfield High School boys basketball team on Friday night in Alamosa.

Absmeier finished with 12 points while Orozco dropped 14 to send Alamosa (5-2, 2-1 3A Intermountain League) to a key 43-36 league win against the visiting Wolverines (2-3, 0-2 IML).

Bayfield took a 9-5 lead after one quarter but would trail 17-16 at halftime before the Alamosa scoring duo got red hot in the second half.

Crosby Edwards led BHS with 10 points, while Kacey Chandler finished with nine points. Landon Kennedy was held to six points.

The Wolverines shot only one free throw the entire night, while Alamosa was 6-of-13 at the foul line. Orozco was 4-of-9 at the free-throw line alone.

BHS will look for its first league win at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Montezuma-Cortez.
