Albertsons and Safeway will limit the number of people allowed in their Colorado stores to about 30% of capacity to promote sanitary conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the stores will put in place a one-way movement policy in aisles. Aisles will be marked to provide direction. Stores will also add dedicated shopping times for senior citizens and other immune-compromised shoppers from 7 to 9 a.m. each Wednesday.
Ryne Hayes, store director at Durango’s Albertsons, said the Durango store holds dedicated shopping hours for senior citizens and immune-compromised shoppers from 7 to 9 a.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
The changes in practices during the COVID-19 pandemic is to promote social-distancing guidelines and will also take place in stores in Wyoming, New Mexico, South Dakota and Nebraska.
The company has also obtained masks for all of its employees.
In addition, measures already taken or expected to be in place by the end of the week include:
Plexiglass partitions will be put in place in checkout lanes. Stores will follow all recommended Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for frequent handwashing, hand sanitizer use and surface cleaning.Enhanced measures to clean and disinfect all areas of the stores have been implemented.Store hours have been adjusted to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily to provide time for restocking and deep cleanings.Posters and decals are placed on the floor to note proper social-distancing spaces.Contact-free delivery procedures are in place. The same policies are in place for the stores’ Drive Up & Go services.Stores are offering free same-day and next-day delivery of prescriptions to pharmacy patients.Albertsons Co. operates more than 2,300 stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia that operate under several banners including Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Vons and Shaw’s.
