Alex G. Velasquez, 66, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Durango. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Burial will occur at Ignacio West Cemetery in Ignacio. A rosary was held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Velasquez was born March 8, 1948 in Ignacio, the son of Augustine and Felicita Velasquez.

Alex was an avid horseman. He enjoyed the great outdoors; including, fishing, and hunting. He also loved watching his Broncos! He was a proud grandpa and loved supporting his grandkids by watching them participate in their various sports activities.

He is survived by his son, Alexis Velasquez of Ignacio; grandsons Ruben, Lexis, and Ty Velasquez; granddaughter Celsa Velasquez of Ignacio; great-granddaughter Rena Richards of Ignacio; and sisters Georgann Alcon of Pagosa Springs, Martha, of Magna, Utah, Virgie Velasquez of Bloomfield, and Priscilla Holman of Farmington, and numerous extended family members.
