At the time of this writing, snow has finally found its way into Durango, making it hard to envision a time of shorts, sandals and drinking craft beer on the new Durango Bluegrass Train, set to hit the tracks May 28 to 30.
But music – and train – lovers, rejoice, for there is a light at the end of the tunnel: The Durango Bluegrass Train has announced its lineup for its inaugural run this summer.
The performers include: The Fretliners, High Country Hustle, Alex Graf Duo featuring Eli Emmitt, Humbletown Duo, Lightweight Travelers and The Brothers Santos.

The six bands will each perform in their own car on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad as it makes its way through the Animas Valley into the San Juan National Forest.
The three and a half hour round-trip ride leaves Durango at 7 p.m. and stops for a 15- to 20-minute break at Rockwood before making its way back to the train depot. Guests are invited to move freely from car to car, dancing and exploring six distinct musical atmospheres, and four coaches will offer seated accommodations, while two open, standing-room-only cars are designed for high-energy dancing, a news release said.
There will also be three bars on the train serving Colorado craft beer, wine and canned cocktails throughout the evening.
And, according to the release, “Although Thursday, Friday and Saturday feature the same lineup, organizers emphasize that each night will bring its own unique energy and crowd dynamic.”
Tickets for the train cost $165 per person, and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday. If the sales of the Blues Train tickets are any indication, selling out fast, it’s recommended patrons are online and ready to buy their Bluegrass Train tickets as soon as they go on sale.
