All welcome to come view powerful film

Here’s my guilty little secret: I did not know that the Equal Rights Amendment has not been ratified. I am not alone because apparently the vast majority of the population thinks as I do. I have also learned that this is just the tip of the iceberg about what I don’t know about women’s rights. The “Me Too” movement struck a cord and now I am a proud member of the Women’s Rights committee, a part of Indivisible Durango and I am getting an education.

As inspiring an experience as that was, we are now wondering where to go next as we ride this wave of advancement for all people. To try to stimulate some ideas about our next steps, our Women’s Rights committee is hosting a viewing of a very excellent documentary called “Equal Means Equal” at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Durango Library. This powerful film, produced by Kamala Lopez, educates about the lack of women’s rights in terms of foster care and child sex trafficking, the law, female poverty, pregnancy discrimination, rape and sexual assault, female incarceration, wage discrimination, domestic violence, reproductive healthcare and international women’s rights. Let’s just say that you will not be bored viewing this film.

We welcome all our fellow humans whether of the male, female or however-you-identify persuasion.
