Allison Aichele has earned another term

The Herald got it wrong when it endorsed Colton Black for treasurer. Somehow, he convinced them he is qualified. I would not entrust a $1,000 investment to someone with so little experience much less the millions of dollars the treasurer processes each year.

Did Allison Aichele make mistakes in her first term as treasurer? Yes, procedural mistakes. She has been forthcoming about those issues and has learned from the audits.

The bottom line is: the millions of dollars the treasurer’s office handles each year always balanced – to the penny. That’s because she has an accounting degree and an MBA. Was there a steep learning curve? Yes, but when someone with this strong a background makes procedural errors, why does the Herald think someone with zero accounting background can do the job?

Has she done good things as treasurer? Absolutely! Online payments are easier for us and save the county money. She took the office from a paper-and-pencil operation to a state-of-the-art computerized system. Does she deserve a second term? Absolutely.
