I read with sadness the letters in favor of Amendment 69. The misconceptions and downright falsehoods amaze me. First of all, the meeting on Sept. 1 at the library was not a discussion on how we can address the differences we have on this amendment. It was a propaganda attempt to “sell” an unfair system.
If Obamacare is a nightmare, then Amendment 69 is the devil coming at you with all the pitchforks in hell. Please read the actual Article XXX on Amendment 69 that you will be voting on.
A tax will be established on three groups of people: the working people, the owners of all businesses who hire these people, and the non-payroll income people, including their IRAs.
Oh, but wait — another section of Article XXX says ColoradoCare’s board will raise taxes anytime it sees fit. Also, the board has a right to sue the company you work for to make it pay for your health expenses should it see fit or put a lien on that business. That’s in section 11.3.A.
Get sick out of state — God help you — “Premium tax does not constitute the purchase of a health insurance policy by an employer or taxpayer.” That’s a direct quote.
If you collect Social Security you will pay an additional tax. If you are enrolled in Medicare, you will still pay your Medicare premium and ColoradoCare taxes. I’m not against anyone having health care, but there is a much better way to do this.
Even the governor is against Amendment 69. If it passes, the three groups will have to pay starting July 1, 2017. There are no ceilings set by ColoradoCare as to how much Amendment 69 can take from the state budget.
Please vote carefully.
